Library history

Our library was founded March 20, 1896 on the initiative of the Company's provision for public education. The company is part of an advanced, progressive-minded citizens and political exiles: O.Kostyurin, V.Gintovt-Dzevaltovsky, E.Mihaelis, I.Emelyantsev, A. Fedorov, G.Vistenius and others. Their books and made an initial fund of the library. So for books Fedorov made 100 rubles. A military doctor G. In the year of the centenary of the death of Pushkin, August 19, 1937 the Presidium of the Ust-Kamenogorsk city council decided to assign the city library named after the great poet. Two years later, the East Kazakhstan region separated from the Semipalatinsk and acquired the status of a regional library. In 1939, the Semipalatinsk region stands out as an independent on the East Kazakhstan region and Ust-Kamenogorsk becomes the oblast center. In connection with this event the city library was transformed into the regional.
